Night Watch

Today was Heathcliff's turn for the night shift. Typically, he waits for the others to leave first. On nights such as these, it gets boring when there's no one to butt heads with.
He's been learning how to connect with fellow sinners more by talking to them about the mundane.
A small conversation between him, Faust and Gregor isn't so bad. They all have to sleep in the end however.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
Right, folks. You all better get some shuteye soon.
Gregor Sinner #13
Good call. I probably should before I oversleep again last I did last time.
Gregor Sinner #13
Nice chatting, yeah? See you guys in the morning.
As Gregor turns around to leave, Faust stops him for a moment, hand grabbing him from the behind. There's a smile on her face.
Faust Sinner #2
Remember to take deep breaths should something occur.
Gregor, finding the move unexpected, stammers, red as a tomato.
Gregor Sinner #13
(F-Faust...I gotta sleep...Keeping that in mind, though...)
Faust Sinner #2
I shall proceed with you in a moment. Have a good night, Gregor.
The soldier gives a very short glance towards Heathcliff, before heading towards the corridor.
All the while, Heathcliff's jaw had been open the moment Faust grabbed Gregor.
Faust Sinner #2
Is something the matter, Heathcliff?
Heathcliff Sinner #7
Wh—
Heathcliff Sinner #7
Wh—?!
Faust Sinner #2
Do speak.
He was too stunned to speak.
Unsure of how to proceed, Heathcliff tries to think of what to actually say as a reaction. Faust tilts her head, waiting.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
...What the hell was that?!
Faust Sinner #2
Ah. I expected such a reaction. Allow me to explain.
In the midst of the night watch, rather than keeping alert for anyone trying to get in the bus's way, Heathcliff found himself having a longer conversation with Faust.
Faust of all people, of all sinners...this was a lot to take in, even for Heathcliff.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
So let me get this straight.
Faust Sinner #2
Feel free to reiterate.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
You. And ol' Greg.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
Have been secretly dating for a while.
Faust Sinner #2
Yes.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
Long enough that even clockface doesn't know about it.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
And I am the first guy to find out?
Faust Sinner #2
Yes, that would be correct.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
That's a whole load.
Faust Sinner #2
I suppose your reaction is justified in this manner. Neither Faust or Gregor have decided to reveal this information as intimate workplace relationships are not the most common within Limbus Company.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
I dunno if that's true.
Faust Sinner #2
Nonetheless, since you are the first of the sinners to discover this piece of knowledge, you may ask as you wish and Faust will answer.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
Hmm...
Frankly, he had a lot of questions. If he asked every single one it would distract him from what he's supposed to be doing. Faust appeared very open to the idea of answering, but he also knew she can be quite vague.
This could also be an excuse to learn more about her at all.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
Well, it ain't a question, but I just wanted to say...I really didn't expect you to be the type.
Faust interprets this as a kind comment, and ruminates on what to say.
Faust Sinner #2
Many of those around us do not believe Faust to be the sort to engage in fun activities.
Faust Sinner #2
As you are aware, this is not the case. Even Faust is able to have hobbies, have relationships, and the sort.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
Everyone's got hobbies, but I get ya.
Faust Sinner #2
To love is to be human. And Faust likes to believe that she can love Gregor all the same.
Saying this, she smiles to herself again, as if smitten by the mere thought of Gregor. Heathcliff nods, definitely understanding.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
That's awfully sweet.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
....Think I get you, really.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
One more thing, actually.
Faust Sinner #2
Proceed.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
Why do you reveal this...
He gestures.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
...To me, of all people?
Faust's expression doesn't falter. Rather, it changes into an expression that he can't quite make out. The answer she gives, however, tells him something smug.
Faust Sinner #2
Ah.
Faust Sinner #2
It is quite simple..
Faust Sinner #2
I am certain no one will believe you if information about Faust's personal life were to try and spread.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
What?! Are you kidding me-!
Faust Sinner #2
Have a pleasant shift, Heathcliff.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
Oi! Oi, come back! I've got more questions!
But she was already gone.
Huffing, Heathcliff leans towards his bat. She was, unfortunately, correct that nobody would believe him if he were to flip his arms over and over and shout out the truth.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
Love, huh.
Heathcliff Sinner #7
...Hope that goes well for them.
It was back to work for him. In the back of his mind, he wonders just how much is there to know about Faust.
